4G OPERATOR STRATEGIES

Event Date: Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Chair:

This track will present  a view into network operator strategies for 4G voice, backhaul and rural network deployment.  In addition to the opening overview session, each session will include operator participation and a panel discussion by experts involved in defining deployment and network solution strategies.

Challenges and Options for Delivering Voice Over 4G Networks

Time: 3:00 PM

The drive to support voice on 4G networks is still mired in issues and challenges.  Despite GSMA taking over the VoLTE/One Voice initiative, progress towards a common standard still lags and network interoperability, TDM support and signaling remain stumbling points.  Come hear what the leading operators are thinking and doing to support a critical application profitably and with the least interruption to users.

Operator Migration Strategies for Backhaul

Time: 4:00 PM

As mobile operators roll out 4G services like LTE and WiMAX, microwave backhaul will play an increasingly important role in the network. Besides unprecedented levels of downloading via smart devices, users at the network edge are creating huge amounts of content and uploading it via cellular base stations and, by extension, severely loading the backhaul network. Microwave backhaul has already proven itself as a reliable and scalable technology to support this load, and many mobile operators are now taking an even closer look at the technology as a preferred alternative to laying fiber or leasing lines in planning 4G deployments.

In this panel discussion a system integrator specializing in turnkey solutions for the design, implementation, and maintenance of wireless infrastructure, will along with 3 mobile operators, examine strategies for evolving microwave backhaul to support the migration of their networks to 4G.

4G Networks for Rural/Underserved Broadband in US

Time: 5:00 PM

This session will examine the opportunities and challenges for operators to deploy next generation 4G networks for broadband services targeted for rural and underserved areas in US.  This panel will feature a discussion among operators and vendors to highlight the advantages that 4G networks bring to the market for cost effective broadband wireless deployments in sparsely populated areas of the country. The discussion will address both 4G technologies, WiMAX and TD-LTE, targeted for wireless broadband applications.
